Akezhan advises on banking and financial regulation, capital markets, corporate transactions and regulatory matters in Kazakhstan and the Astana International Financial Centre (AIFC). As part of Unicase’s Banking and Finance team, he advises financial institutions, international investors and corporate clients on a broad range of financing, transactional and corporate matters.
As a member of Unicase's Banking and Finance team
- Advised a major international development bank on the Kazakhstan law aspects of a USD 6.6 billion project financing for the construction of a large-scale petrochemical facility in a special economic zone.
- Advising the sponsor, as Kazakhstan counsel, on the financing of the Balkhash wind portfolio in the Akmola Region, provided by AIIB, ICBC and the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, including Kazakhstan law due diligence and land, PPA and security matters.
- Advised a leading Chinese state-owned energy investor on the multi-source, multi-currency financing of five wind power projects in Kazakhstan with a combined capacity of 220 MW.
- Advised a major infrastructure investment bank on the Kazakhstan law framework for a prospective tenge-denominated lending and funding programme, including KZT bond issuances and swap transactions.
- Advised a Middle Eastern ship-owning and management company on a secured corporate loan to a Kazakhstan borrower, supported by a Kazakhstan law-governed mortgage over a business jet and related security arrangements.
