Energy Law Insights - World Environment Day Panel

In collaboration, Unicase Law Firm and KIMEP University, supported by USAID Power The Central Asia, recently hosted a roundtable to address the critical issues and opportunities surrounding energy and climate change law. The event gathered experts from academia, industry, and international organizations to discuss the pressing challenges, opportunities, and legal frameworks related to energy and climate change.

Dr. Rustam Atadjanov, Interim Dean of KIMEP University Law School, opened the event with a compelling introduction. He was accompanied by Alina Davar, Director of Experiential Learning and Assistant Professor of Practice at KIMEP School of Law, and Laura Cizmo, Director of the Regional Economic Development Office at USAID Central Asia. Together, they outlined the roundtable’s goals and introduced the day's speakers.

Bayan Abylkairova, Deputy Chief of Party for The USAID Power Central Asia Activity, presented an overview of USAID’s initiatives and their impact on energy security and sustainability in Central Asia. Her presentation highlighted key projects and strategies aimed at strengthening the region's energy landscape.

Saniya Perzadayeva, Senior Partner at Unicase Law Firm, offered practical insights into the application of energy law. Through case studies and real-world examples, her presentation provided valuable perspectives for legal practitioners.

Ivan Novikov, Associate Director and Head of Central Asia at Cranmore Partners, explored the complexities of financing renewable energy projects. He discussed funding mechanisms, investment strategies, and the financial challenges inherent in the renewable energy sector.

The day concluded with a session on topics such as legal, engineering and financial career paths in energy or ESG sector. Our thanks to everyone who registered and joined us on the day.
